BREAKFAST - SHOULD I BE EATING IT?

High quality studies show that there is nothing 'special' about breakfast, although there is plenty of other "advice" to tell you it is. Confused? Keep reading!

Top research suggests that it probably does not matter whether you eat or skip breakfast, as long as you eat healthy for the rest of the day. Breakfast does not kick start your metabolism and skipping it does not automatically make you overeat and gain weight.

This is a myth. At the end of the day, breakfast is optional and it all boils down to personal preference.

When it comes to me advising my clients, I suggest that they all eat breakfast. Why? From my own findings, I believe that breakfast eaters tend to have healthier lifestyle habits and over the last 5 years I have noticed that people who skip breakfast tend to smoke more, drink more alcohol and exercise less. Their motivation to continue with keeping fit is also lower. I have also discovered that most clients who eat a good healthy breakfast don't go looking for snacks containing high amounts of sugar and fats throughout the day. They tend to be more conscious with their daily nutrition.

Getting every aspect of your life in order can have extremely positive effects on your wellbeing, so let's start with breakfast! My Monday-Friday breakfast tends to look like this. (See photo). On the weekend, poached or scrambled eggs on sourdough toast with smoked salmon and avocado/spinach would be my preferred choice.
